Description

Rich Heritage in Bronze

The Benin and Nigerian bronze sculptures of leopards hold immense historical significance. These exquisitely crafted pieces reflect the sophisticated artistry of the Benin kingdom, renowned for their intricate bronze work.

Modern Replicas from 1924

Our modern replicas are based on the originals from 1924, passed down from my grandfather. These statues not only carry historical value but also serve as a testament to the enduring legacy of African art.

A Timeless Treasure

These bronze leopard sculptures are more than just decorative items; they are timeless treasures that tell the story of an age-old tradition. Perfect for any art collection, these pieces bring a touch of history and elegance to your home.

Offered for sale is a pair of modern mid-20th-century copies of Benin (modern-day Nigeria) bronze figural sculptures of leopards. This large and impressive pair of leopards is life-size and makes a strong decorative statement. The original Benin bronzes are a group of more than a thousand metal plaques and sculptures that decorated the royal palace of the Kingdom of Benin in what is now modern-day Nigeria. Collectively, the objects form the best-known examples of Benin art, created from the thirteenth century onwards by the Edo people, which also included other sculptures in brass or bronze, including some famous portrait heads and smaller pieces. These leopards are replicas of the original Benin bronzes.
